Parishioners at St Dunstan's in Woking held a very fruitful meeting last month focusing on how their church community can better support and celebrate neurodivergent people and their families. St Dunstan's recognises the particular gifts that neurodivergent people bring to the community, and the importance of making practical adjustments so that everyone can feel truly "at home".
They are now beginning to explore and implement a number of simple changes, including sensory boxes for St Dunstan’s and St Hugh’s churches, and a supply of noise-reducing headphones to support those who may benefit from them during Mass.
Writing on Facebook, a representative of the parish said:
"We welcome any thoughts or feedback from parents, carers, and individuals about what they would like to see in the parish. This is the beginning of a journey that we hope will bring us towards a deeper inclusion."
