Safe Spaces is a free, national support service that operates as a helpline and online service, so you can access support from anywhere. The charity provides a confidential, personal and safe space for anyone who has been abused through their relationship with the Catholic Church of England and Wales or the Church of England.

Safe Spaces is not part of the Church.

When someone contacts Safe Spaces, they will first speak with a Support Advisor.

Support Advisors:

• Respond to initial enquiries by phone, email, or webchat
• Provide immediate emotional support where needed
• Explain the scope of the service and eligibility criteria
• Carry out an initial needs assessment

If a person is eligible and would like ongoing support, they may be offered work with a Survivor Advocate.

Survivor Advocates provide one-to-one advocacy, emotional support, and case coordination.

All Survivor Advocates within Safe Spaces are also trained Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs), with specialist skills to support people affected by sexual violence and abuse.

Support is provided at the person’s pace and guided by their choices.
