Representatives from dioceses across the country participate in Dialogue & Unity Conference

May 22, 2026

The Department of Dialogue and Unity at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference  (CBCEW) held its annual Ecumenical and Interreligious Co-ordinators’ Conference in Northamptonshire on 28–29 April. The conference, which was led by Archbishop Bernard Longley, provided an opportunity for representatives from around the country, including Mark Potter from our Diocese, to hear from one another, share best practice and receive updates from CBCEW staff regarding ecumenical and interreligious activities, with contributions from Bishop Patrick McKinney (Nottingham) and Bishop Paul Hendricks (Southwark).

Catholics who wholeheartedly engage with Christians and those of other religions often experience a deeper understanding of their own faith commitment.

The ecumenical input for the conference included a presentation by Lindsey Brown from the United Reformed Church (URC) on the Roman Catholic–URC Dialogue Group’s conversations and their Journeying Together resource pack for churches, with Fr Martin Browne OSB from the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, exploring how Pope Leo is shaping ecumenical and interreligious dialogue - with reference to the Holy Father’s recent meetings with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the new Archbishop of Canterbury. You can find out more about Dialogue and Unity on the diocesan website.

Many thanks to Mark Potter for sharing this story with us.
