Pupils from Our Lady of Lourdes collect much-needed supplies for local food bank.

November 24, 2021

Pupils from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in Rottingdean have been extremely busy donating much needed supplies to the Fizherbert Community Hub's Sunday Food Bank in Brighton. Our Lady of Lourdes Headteacher, Paul Barber, contacted the organisation after visiting the Hub. Pupils were keen to contribute to the food bank with the collection going from strength to strength - nuns from the neighbouring convent also got involved.

What was expected to be a few bags of food and toiletries turned out to be a van load of supplies which filled the food bank’s shelves almost to overflowing! Speaking about the undertaking, Paul said,

“As the Head Teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes, Rottingdean, I am always looking for opportunities for the children to live out their faith in practical ways. After visiting St John the Baptist Church, and seeing the work of the Fitzherbert Community Hub, I thought I’d mention it to the children in our next assembly. I thought we might collect a couple of crates of food; but the children had different ideas: they really went for it! It was very moving when we were able to donate a significant amount of food – and they are still keen to give more.”

Demand continues to grow with the food bank welcoming 115 visitors last Sunday. If you would like to help, please contact
