Head of School at St Richard’s Catholic Primary School, Sydney Bridges, has welcomed the awarding of a Helping Others Grant to the school.
The Pagham Pram Race Committee awarded a Helping Others Grant to St Richard’s Catholic Primary School in Chichester, in recognition of its strong commitment to equality, inclusion, and educational opportunity for every child. The funding supports the school’s new reading scheme by enabling the purchase of a full range of reading books across all levels, ensuring that every pupil can access materials that match their reading ability. By removing barriers to learning and providing equal access to high-quality reading resources, the grant helps foster a love of reading, supports literacy development, and ensures that no child is disadvantaged in their learning journey.
The Pagham Pram Race has a 70 year plus history. In 1946 a group of demobbed servicemen decided they would like to do something over the Christmas period, so they came up with the idea of a pram race. One pushing the pram and another as a baby in it. The prize was then a Christmas fruit cake and any monies raised were to go to local good causes. Since then, The Pagham Pram Race has been run every year on Boxing Day, whatever the weather.
St Richard's School has recently joined the Bosco Catholic Education Trust.
