Intention

“Feed my lambs ... Tend my sheep.” John 21:15–16

Today we pray for all the priests and deacons of the Diocese, for those preparing for ministry, for retired and sick clergy and for all who have served the people of God in our Diocese.

‍

Reflection

Christ entrusted Peter with the care of his flock and, through the sacrament of Holy Orders, that pastoral ministry continues in the Church.

Our clergy carry many responsibilities, often quietly and without recognition. They celebrate the sacraments, preach the Gospel, accompany people through moments of profound joy and sorrow and seek to make Christ present in the ordinary circumstances of daily life.

Today we give thanks for the priests and deacons who have served us. We pray for those who are young in ministry and those whose years of service are many; for those who are well and those who are struggling; for those who are active in ministry and those whose ministry has become one of prayer and offering.

May St Philip Howard intercede for our clergy, that they may remain close to Christ and faithful to their vocation.

‍St Philip Howard, pray for our priests and deacons.

‍

Together we pray:

Our Father…

Hail Mary…

Glory Be…

‍

Prayer for Bishop-elect Stephen

Lord Jesus Christ,

you are the true Shepherd of the flock.

Give Bishop-Elect Stephen the grace to be a faithful shepherd of priests and deacons.

May he encourage them, support them

and help them to grow in holiness and joy.

May the Holy Spirit strengthen him

to serve Christ and his Church with courage and humility. Amen.
