Novena Day Two: Join people across our diocese as we journey in prayer

October 12, 2026

‍

Novena Day Two

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations ... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19–20

Today is the second day of our novena. Together with people across our diocesan family, we pray for Bishop-elect Stephen, catechists, those preparing people for the sacraments, those who lead sacramental programmes, RCIA groups, children's liturgy and adult formation, and all who teach and hand on the Catholic Faith.

Reflection

The faith is a gift we receive, but it is also a treasure entrusted to us to pass on.

Every catechist shares in the Church's mission to proclaim Christ and help others encounter Him. Often this ministry takes place quietly: preparing a child for First Holy Communion, accompanying a young person towards Confirmation, welcoming an adult who is exploring the faith or helping families discover the riches of the Gospel.

We pray today that all who teach the faith may do so with wisdom, patience and joy. May their words be supported by the witness of their lives and may those whom they serve encounter Christ himself.

St Philip Howard, courageous witness to the faith, pray for all our catechists and teachers of the Gospel.

‍

Together we pray:

Our Father…

Hail Mary…

Glory Be…

Prayer for Bishop-elect Stephen

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of your people,

as Bishop-Elect Stephen prepares to receive the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders,

give him a shepherd's heart.

May he love every parish entrusted to his care, know the joys and struggles of your people,

and lead us always closer to you.

Through the intercession of St Philip Howard,

prepare him for his ministry among us.

Amen

‍

Our Lady, Assumed into Heaven, pray for us.

St Joseph, pray for us.

St Philip Howard, pray for us
