Join our team as our new Choral Director.

December 1, 2022

Full Time: 35 hours per week (part-time applicants will be considered)

Fixed Term Contract (2 years)

Salary: £26,000 to £28,000

Based: The St Philip Howard Centre in Crawley, with travel to schools

Starting: February 2023

Closing Date for Applications: 9 January 2023

The Diocese is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and appropriately qualified Choral Director who, working with the diocesan Education Service, will be responsible for partnering with local diocesan schools to implement and develop the National Schools Singing Programme (NSSP).

The Choral Director will work within 12 schools in the diocese and will be responsible for the development of choral singing in those schools, nurturing potential in our diverse communities. The core work of the Choral Director takes place during the school day in diocesan primary schools, although children in the NSSP with a particular interest in singing will be encouraged to take part in after- school choirs and to sing in church. A key aim of the role is to create opportunities for children to participate in the music provision for their own parishes, so the role incorporates some Sunday working to facilitate and lead this.

The Diocese of Arundel & Brighton includes the city of Brighton and Hove and the counties of Surrey and Sussex outside the London Boroughs. Initial partnerships will be sought in the Brighton and Crawley areas (and the A23 corridor that joins them). The post-holder must have a full driving licence and access to a car. Mileage expenses are paid.

While it is not essential to be a Catholic, it is expected that the post-holder will engage positively with Catholic environments and be willing to develop a deep knowledge of Catholic liturgy and the relevant musical repertoire.

Interviews will take place in Crawley on 19 January 2023. For more details about the role, please email the Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Kilmartin;
