We began as a group of young adults who wanted to live a life of Christian community together, drawing upon the wisdom of the Benedictine monastic tradition to guide us. We prayed, studied, ran retreats, set up prayer groups and offered food and friendship to young adults in Brighton. We worked part time, sharing our finances in order to make it all possible. Fifteen years later, some members are married with children, some are single, and some members are moving towards consecrated religious life within the community. The commitment to daily prayer and ongoing formation are central to the lives of all members.
A year with The Wellspring Community is an opportunity to create space for God; to grow in your prayer life, to receive rich formation and engage in mission to young adults in the city of Brighton. For one or two years, you will live with other young adults in the context of the wider community, receiving from the riches of the monastic tradition and the wisdom of the Church. It is a time to listen to the call of Christ, to ask big vocational questions and learn from others on the journey of discipleship.
You will be living alongside other Formation and Mission members and building community together with the help and support of wider Wellspring members. St Benedict lays out an extraordinary vision of what community is meant to be and meant to do. It is the space in which, through our day to day interactions, we can learn to love and serve God and each other. You will be cooking and cleaning, meeting and planning mission work, praying and singing, spending time together and socialising.
