Support our sisters and brothers to flourish this CAFOD Family Fast Day

February 27, 2026

Rejoice, from South Sudan

People across our family of faith are invited to take part in CAFOD’s Family Fast Day on 27 February - by praying, eating simply, and giving, people across our diocese can help our brothers and sisters grow enough food to eat.

CAFOD are focusing on hunger this Family Fast Day, not the kind that comes from waiting too long to eat, but the kind that comes from having nothing to eat at all.

Rejoice (pictured above) is a mother from South Sudan. To protect her children, she was forced to flee conflict twice, losing everything she owned. Just as she began to rebuild her life, disaster struck again with severe floods impacting the region as Rejoice explains:

“[Our] farmlands were submerged underwater. Everything, including livestock, was completely destroyed.”

Rejoice is a skilled farmer but with no food to harvest, she faced the terrifying reality of not being able to feed her children. Fortunately, with the support of local experts - and as a result of donations to CAFOD - she learned how to grow food on top of the water, with floating gardens allowing crops to grow where fields once lay.

By supporting CAFOD's Family Fast Day this Lent, you can be the good neighbour Jesus calls us to be, eating simply and giving generously so another family can put food on the table.
