Pilgrim Euan reaches Santiago, walking in aid of our diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage

May 6, 2026

Euan Carlisle, from Christ the Prince of Peace, Weybridge, has completed his fundraising walk over 12 days across the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela in aid of the diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage.

The Diocese was able to offer 260 subsidised pilgrimage places last year, giving those who might not otherwise be able to go, an enriching experience of faith and joy. Funds raised by Euan will help the pilgrims who need it most.

While the walk of approximately 320km is slightly shorter than some of the other Camino routes, because it crosses the mountains, it is more challenging and Euan felt the first seven days were the hardest thing he had ever done. Walking six to seven hours each day through mountainous terrain, he and his fellow walkers struggled to consume enough food at times, but he pushed on, reflecting on the benefits his pilgrimage would make to others making their own pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Sadly, one of his walking companions broke an ankle along the way and another had to pull out due to an old injury but Euan and his remaining walking partner were sustained by the beautiful views through the clouds, meeting wonderful people along the way, and receiving a warm welcome on his arrival in Santiago de Compostela.

The pilgrimage team are incredibly thankful to Euan for making the Lourdes Pilgrimage his charity to support. Click the button below to donate to Euan's fundraising efforts via JustGiving.
