To mark the beginning of the school year, members of the diocesan Education Service spent a day of reflection at The House of Prayer, East Molesey. Led by Deacon Jon Harman, we thought deeply about the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000 and its relationship to our work in education and to the mission of all who work in our schools.
Christ does not ask the disciples to perform the miracle. He asks them to offer what they have and to trust him with it. That is our invitation too: our work depends upon people bringing their particular gifts and placing them at the service of something greater than themselves. No single person carries that mission alone.
This year, may we become for one another something of those five loaves and two fish: small offerings which, placed in Christ's hands, can become more than we imagine.
