Join with people across the globe this World Day of Prayer

March 6, 2026

This year's World Day of Prayer (WDP), which is led by women from Nigeria, takes place today, Friday 6 March.

The Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical movement which encourages women to promote prayerful living and worship for men, women and young people, and to help raise awareness of the lives and concerns of others throughout the world - particularly the lives of the women who lead the WDP each year.

Nigeria faces significant environmental challenges due to climate change with rising temperatures and erratic rainfall patterns affecting agriculture and water resources, and rising sea levels threatening coastal communities.

In response, Nigeria has developed comprehensive strategies - including ratifying the Paris Agreement in 2017, implementing a National Climate Change Policy, and committing to renewable energy development and combatting desertification.

Women and girls in Nigeria also face numerous challenges, including access to education, employment and political representation, with the achievements of prominent Nigerian women testament to their invaluable contribution to society, both within Nigeria and globally.
