On Friday 11 July, Bishop Richard blessed a new building at St Philip Howard Catholic School on the Feast of St Benedict, whose Rule balanced spiritual devotion with the pursuit of knowledge and service. Addressing the assembled school community, he said,
"St Benedict in his rule talked about the monastery as a school of the Lord’s service, and that is exactly what any of our schools are, they are schools of the Lord’s service. So thank you for inviting me to be here on this day, and lets pray that this community will always be that school of the Lord’s service for all who come here, work here and visit."
Tim Hulse, Headteacher, echoed this as he explained to the gathered governors, Bosco Catholic Education Trust staff and invited guests that the building will be used for the teaching of English, and contains a Library and Learning Resource Centre, and will be a place where love of the students informs the learning.
The whole school gathered outside to celebrate their end of term Mass, during which Bishop Richard blessed the new Sixth Form leadership team.
Julie Oldroyd, Director of Education reflected that the response of the school community to this day of great blessings was one of joy, and the students, who took part in fundraising activities in the afternoon, including the Race for Life, were in their acts of charitable giving "going forth to love and serve the Lord."
