The community of St Andrew’s Catholic School, Leatherhead, came together yesterday for a Mass of Thanksgiving to celebrate Alan Mitchell’s 16 years as Head.

Family, friends, colleagues, governors and pupils past and present filled the Sports Hall and Fr Chris Bergin celebrated Mass, recognising the significant contribution Alan has made to Catholic education. Fr Chris was assisted by Fr Simon Iduh and Deacons Ian Wells, Paul Fisher and David Pattinson.

James Kibble, Xavier Catholic Education Trust CEO, spoke of his long association with Alan and highlighted his integrity and humility in always doing the right thing for the students, to help them achieve their potential.

Alan was presented with the diocesan medal for services to Catholic Education by Julie Oldroyd, Director of Education. Alan was given a standing ovation at the end of his speech before everyone gathered for refreshments in the school grounds.
