More than 40 pilgrims from our Diocese joined many hundreds of Catholics from across England and Wales in London on Saturday 10 October for “Adoremus”, the National Eucharistic Congress.
The day-long celebration provided an enriching invitation to people of all ages to renew their devotion to the Eucharistic Lord, with Mass at 12 noon celebrated by Archbishop John Wilson, Archbishop of Southwark, at St George’s Cathedral. Speaking during the homily, Archbishop John explored the “converting power of the Eucharist… [and] the power of our Eucharistic Lord to touch people’s lives.”
“My sisters and brothers, if ever your brokenness makes it too painful for you to reach out in love to Jesus, then ask him to lend his love to you. Borrow your love from his Eucharistic Heart. Go directly to the words of the Adoro te devote: 'O thou, our reminder of the Crucified, Living Bread, the life of us for whom he died, Lend this life to me then… Lend this life to me.'”
Mass was followed by a keynote address by Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe OP on “The Eucharist: Our Sacrament of Hope in Dark Times” and a Eucharistic Procession of nearly three miles from Southwark to Westminster Cathedral.
Liz Fitch (third from left, above) was the principal Adoremus 2026 organiser for our diocese; speaking shortly afterwards, she said:
“It was a truly inspiring and uplifting day for those who were able to attend from A&B. Coming together in prayer and fellowship, with the Holy Eucharist at the very heart of our gathering, reminded us of the beauty of our Catholic faith and the central place Christ holds in our lives. A highlight for me was the procession, which was a real joy."
