Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has launched its first-ever global religious freedom petition, calling on governments and the United Nations to take urgent action to protect freedom of thought, belief and worship.
People around the world continue to suffer because of their faith, experiencing discrimination, violence, imprisonment and even death. At the heart of ACN’s campaign is Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of thought, conscience and religion — including the right to change one’s belief and to practise it openly or privately.
The petition represents a concrete response to the alarming trends documented in ACN’s Religious Freedom in the World Report 2025, which shows that billions of people live in countries where religious freedom is violated, restricted, or threatened.
ACN supports persecuted and oppressed Christians worldwide and stands in solidarity with those who cannot speak freely for themselves. The charity hopes that its petition will make a lasting difference to the lives of our suffering brothers and sisters and send a powerful message to lawmakers that religious freedom must be protected everywhere, for everyone
