153 members of clergy from across Sussex and Surrey completed mandatory bi-annual safeguarding training this month. The training, which was delivered by Sebastian Carro from the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) National Office, was supported by the diocesan Safeguarding Team.
All priests, deacons, employees and volunteers working with vulnerable groups, including children, must adhere to the Catholic Church's national safeguarding policies before they can be appointed. Our Safeguarding Team helps parishes in their work with vulnerable groups to facilitate safe environments and maintain consistently high standards.
Speaking earlier this week our diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator Angela McGrory, said:
"This year’s training looked at ways to ensure every parish, ministry, and event is a place of safety, welcome, and care for all — especially for the most vulnerable. Safeguarding is not merely a matter of policy, but a vital expression of our shared Christian calling and mission. The training day included the sharing of ideas and best practice, with in-depth consideration given to how these fit within The Eight National Safeguarding Standards of the Catholic Church in England and Wales."
